Samsung VOIP + Mobile Phone Cradle

I became obsessed with reducing barriers to entry by designing integrated systems while working at Samsung. Brand and product adoption was low in the US, mainly due to the cost of acquisition. The leading competitor at the time was Motorola, and the Razor reigned supreme. We wanted to create a form factor that was more user-friendly, durable, and reasonably priced. We ended up with a proof of concept that inspired a multitude of iterations that led to the networked home. The bar form factor was more user-friendly and durable, and the additional functionality of switching over to VOIP mode when the mobile handset was placed on the cradle was the ultimate game changer. This concept eliminated having the home phone and roaming fees while at home. It seemed like a win-win for all, except the US telecom carriers would be the losers in this scenario. This device was only manufactured and distributed in the Asian market.
